Teddy Bridgewater departed in free agency
The original thought surrounding the addition of Teddy Bridgewater to the Saints was that he’d be able to take over for Drew Brees in the future. New Orleans proved to be too on target with their assessment as he earned a large contract with their NFC South rival, the Carolina Panthers.
There was a real need for Bridgewater last season after Brees suffered a hand injury, which makes the Saints losing him to free agency something that shouldn’t be overlooked. Bridgewater completed 133 of his 196 pass attempts (67.9% completion rate) and racked up 1,384 passing yards, nine touchdowns, and just two picks.
With Bridgewater now out of the picture, the Saints are left with a soon-to-be-retired Brees and uncertainty with Taysom Hill. It doesn’t necessarily have to be done with an early round pick, but at least having a developmental option in the fold wouldn’t hurt.
