Drafted an Intriguing Tight End
The New Orleans Saints used one of their selections in the 2020 NFL Draft to add a tight end with strong potential as a player. They ended up selecting Adam Trautman out of Dayton in the third-round despite the original expectation of him going earlier in the order.
During a call with local media, Saints head coach Sean Payton revealed the team’s plan to use Trautman primarily as a blocking tight end. His role is expected to be restricted more than perhaps it could have been had it been a normal offseason. They needed a player with his skill-set, nevertheless.
The Saints already have a tight end in Jared Cook that provides a reliable impact in the red-zone and as a receiver, in general. They also get creative with Taysom Hill lining him up at this position at times. However, they lacked an impactful blocker.
