Changes on the Offensive Line

Many were confused by the New Orleans Saints’ decision to release Larry Warford given he’s a three-time Pro Bowler at age 28. The move was made for good reason and with a legitimate plan in mind to help bolster the team’s offensive line.

The shortcomings Warford had last season were troubling for the Saints. He failed to block Aaron Donald on a play that resulted in Drew Brees suffering his hand injury. In the playoffs, Warford was the weak-link on the Saints’ offense line allowing the Minnesota Vikings to disrupt Brees in the pocket.

By selecting Cesar Ruiz with the No. 24 pick in the 2020 NFL Draft, the Saints no longer needed to keep Warford. They will now be able to start Ruiz at center immediately and move Erik McCoy to the spot. They should experience significant all-around improvement as a result.
