James Conner Fails to Bounce Back

The impact James Conner provided the Pittsburgh Steelers was very strong during the 2018 season but he failed to follow it up the following season. It raises questions about the level of contributions he can bring entering the final season of his rookie deal.

Despite playing in just 13 games, Conner managed to rush for 973 yards and 12 touchdowns while racking up 497 receiving yards and a receiving touchdown. The trajectory he showed to be heading towards was highly impressive for a second-year player

While Conner struggled to stay healthy last season, his impact when he was in the lineup declined from his previous campaign. His totals were lower considering he played in only 10 games but so were his averages in rushing yards (28.4 fewer) and receiving yards (13.1 fewer).

A potential worst-case scenario for the Steelers is that Conner simply fails to get back to his 2018 form even after Ben Roethlisberger returns to the lineup. It would be easier for opposing teams to slow down Pittsburgh’s offensive attack if that were the case.
