4 candidates to replace Bill O’Brien as Houston Texans head coach

1. Brian Daboll

Josh Allen is an early MVP candidate, as the Bills are 4-0 with the league’s fourth-ranked offense (409.5 yards per game) and are tied for the fifth-best scoring offense in the league (30.8 points per game). They are second in passing yards per game (316.3).

Offensive coordinator Brian Daboll should get a lot of credit for all of that, especially fostering Allen’s growth. After completing less than 59 percent of his passes in 2019, Allen is at 70.9 percent this year. The addition of Stefon Diggs has definitely helped, but Daboll has also devised as scheme that embraces everything his quarterback is (good and occasionally “what are you doing?” bad).

The Texans need a head coach who can basically get out of Watson’s way (#LetDeshaunCook?”), with a dose of creativity that O’Brien didn’t seem to have.
