A tough schedule to start the season set the Houston Texans and head coach Bill O’Brien on a tough course, and losses to the Kansas City Chiefs, Baltimore Ravens and Pittsburgh Steelers weren’t too surprising.
But a fairly listless 31-23 loss to the Minnesota Vikings in Week 4 was the final straw. On Monday, O’Brien was fired. He has also been serving as the general manager, officially or not, for the last two offseasons. Some bad trades (DeAndre Hopkins, Jadeveon Clowney, etc.) as GM undid O’Brien as the head coach. So it’s a complete reset of the two most important positions in the organization that’s looming for the Texans.
O’Brien went 52-48 in six-plus seasons with the Texans, including four division titles. Strictly as a coach, even with rightful criticism pretty regularly, he’ll had no trouble finding a new gig.
Romeo Crennel will step as the Texans’ interim head coach for the rest of the season. But looking toward 2021, here are four candidates to replace O’Brien as the head coach in Houston.
