2. Dabo Swinney

Let’s get a little wild. Swinney is entrenched as the head coach at Clemson, so he’s not going anywhere unless he wants to. He has resisted NFL speculation to this point, with the easy idea the Jacksonville Jaguars will be in line to draft his current quarterback (Trevor Lawrence) next April and try to bring him in as head coach.

But Swinney also coached Watson in college, to great heights for both, and the Texans are tied to Watson via a big contract until further notice. Immediate commitment to Watson as the quarterback is a virtual prerequisite for the head coach hire in Houston. Swinney has continually praised his former signal caller, once labeling Watson as a “Michael Jordan” type. So there are no issues of faith in Watson if Swinney were on the Texans radar. He should be put in position to turn them down, otherwise the Texans can’t have a full coaching search.
