Cam Newton Had A Rough Passing Performance, But Thrived On Runs
Making his return to the New England Patriots’ lineup, Cam Newton looked to pick up from where he left off. His outing against the Denver Broncos proved to be a mixed bag.
Newton struggled to get the job done in the passing department against the Denver Broncos. He completed 17-of-25 (68.0%) pass attempts for 157 yards and two interceptions— resulting in a 19.9 QBR.
The area where Newton thrived the most was using his running ability. He provided the Patriots with 76 rushing yards and one touchdown using 10 carries. He accounted for all but 41 of the team’s overall 117 rushing yards despite just a 40% share of the team’s carries.
The Patriots’ offense was unable to overcome the lack of execution in the passing game but Newton’s ability to thrive on the ground helped them to come close.
