What’s Going On With Baker Mayfield?
When the Browns used the No. 1 pick in the 2018 NFL Draft to add Baker Mayfield, the thought was they finally found an answer at the quarterback position. His play on the field as a rookie only reinforced that notion.
The regression Mayfield experienced in his sophomore campaign has carried over into his start to the 2020 season. He completed just 21-of-39 (53.8%) passes for 189 yards, 1 touchdown, and 1 interception.
Something in particular that has stuck out with Mayfield has been his inability to find success with Odell Bekcham Jr. In fact, the lack of results are astonishing. Mayfield targeted Beckham Jr. on 10 throws and it amounted to 3 catches for 22 yards.
Is it Beckham Jr.? Does the Browns’ offense need more time with Kevin Stefanski? Is Mayfield just not that good? Or are the Rams just too difficult of a matchup? It seems the rest of the 2020 season will be required in order to answer all of those questions about Cleveland.
