Vikings’ Defensive Backs
The Vikings made no shortage of changes at the cornerback position this offseason, and to their secondary, in general. The corner trio of Xavier Rhodes, Trae Waynes, and Mackensie Alexander all are no longer a member of Minnesota’s roster.
The production Minnesota received from those corners was underwhelming relative to the expectations, so it’s justifiable they moved on from them. While they still have Harrison Smith and Anthony Harris at safety, the cornerback spot could underwhelm.
Against the Packers in Week 1, the Vikings are expected to involve third-year corners Mike Hughes and Holton Hill often in base defense. However, Cameron Dantzler and Jeff Gladney will be needed, both of whom are rookies.
Going up against a Packers team led by Aaron Rodgers is not an ideal circumstance for a defense that doesn’t have seasoned veterans at the corner position. The main question just becomes, can the Vikings’ secondary get the job done in Week 1?
