3. New York Offensive Line
The 49ers were shredded on the ground by Kyler Murray in Week 1. They will face a completely different quarterback this week in Sam Darnold. If San Francisco can get pressure, Darnold will stand in the pocket and take sacks or make some poor decisions leading to interceptions.
The pressure is on the offensive line of the Jets. This was clearly a priority in the offseason. The Jets made some free agent signings and used their first-round pick on Mehki Becton. If there is one thing the Jets can hang their hats on, it is that their line looked better than a year ago.
George Fant and Connor McGovern struggled but were able to hold their own. Alex Lewis and Becton were impressive while Greg Van Roten was as solid as ever. They will have to take their game to the next level against the pass rush of the Niners.
The Jets know who their quarterback is. Darnold is still a question mark because of his inconsistency. This is an area where the offensive line can help. We all know he is not getting much from the head coach. Darnold needs time and protection to remain healthy and make good decisions.
