4 players who must step up for the New England Patriots in 2020

Chase Winovich

Last offseason, the Patriots used their third-round pick to select Chase Winovich out of Michigan. Similar to most rookies under Belichick, Winovich was given a limited role as he continued to earn trust from the coaching staff.

In his first season in New England, Winovich recorded 5.5 sacks, four tackles for loss, and 10 quarterback hits. While those numbers may not seem impressive, Winovich became the second rookie under Belichick to total 5.5 sacks and 10 quarterback hits in their first season. The only other player to achieve those marks was Chandler Jones in 2012.

With the losses of Van Noy and Collins, the Patriots are losing some firepower in their pass-rushing department. In that case, New England will need Winovich to carve out a prominent role as an edge rusher on the defense.
