Cowboys’ Threat of the Running Game
Perhaps the greatest factor in the Los Angeles Rams’ defeat to the Dallas Cowboys last season was their inability to stop the run. It proved to be too costly for an offense that otherwise couldn’t find much consistent success in the passing game.
The contributions Ezekiel Elliott provided the Cowboys against the Rams was impressive in itself. He finished his outing with 24 carries, 117 rushing yards, and a pair of rushing scores along with 43 receiving yards. There’s little reason to believe he can’t thrive once again.
Let’s not forget, Tony Pollard made the backfield into a real one-two punch last season, but particularly against the Rams. He provided 131 rushing yards and one touchdown run on just 12 carries.
It’s difficult to envision the Cowboys not achieving success with their backfield against the Rams in Week 1. The Rams may need to adjust their strategy to combat the impressive backfield Dallas fields, but that in itself could open up their dynamic wide receiver trio.
