Rams No Longer Dominate with the Run
The incredible impact the Los Angeles Rams received from Todd Gurley set the tone for a team that ultimately found its way to a Super Bowl appearance. Now, that is long gone and they won’t be able to make up for it.
Entering the Week 1 matchup with the Dallas Cowboys, the Rams will be adopting a backfield-by-committee approach. As one might expect, Los Angeles did not show their hand when discussing the possibilities when asked about who will start at running back.
The current expectation is that Cam Akers, who was a second round selection in the 2020 NFL Draft, will receive significant involvement in the Rams’ offense. However, it’s very difficult to envision him producing a dominant impact.
There are plenty of weaknesses on the Rams’ offensive line and that played a role in Gurley’s diminished results. Trying to roll with new running backs and expecting greater results isn’t going to be enough, and that will show against the Dallas Cowboys.
