Patriots’ Run Game Will Dominate by Committee

The Patriots have a deep, deep running game, especially with Damien Harris being activated off of the IR. And it seems each week, it’s a new workhorse that’s chosen.

Last week, it was Harris who ran for 100 yards on 17 carries. Week 3 it was Rex Burkhead, who had two rushing touchdowns and one receiving. Week 1 and 2 it was Newton who had two rushing touchdowns in each game.

So this week against the Broncos, who knows. Maybe it will be Harris again. Or maybe James White, who returned last week after his father’s death. It will be a tough test, as Denver’s run defense is one of the better ones in the league, giving up only 109 yards per game and two rushing touchdowns.

But the Patriots will need to establish the run. They’re a much more dominant team when they do, and with a mobile Newton, have the ability to add that threat to their scheme. Expect to see that touchdown total of the Broncos’ run defense increase after this week.
