San Francisco 49ers: 3 Shining Players from Preseason Week 1

Injuries to Joshua Garnett and Jonathan Cooper have prevented the right guard competition from getting going.

The beneficiary has been Mike Person, who has received the majority of training camp reps at rift guard and excelled in pass protection against Dallas.

Person has experience of the Shanahan system from his time with the Atlanta Falcons and, according to Pro Football Focus, did not allow a pressure in 25 pass blocking snaps on Thursday.

Another start is likely for Person against the Houston Texans as Garnett and Cooper ease back to action. Should he excel against their talented defensive front, then Shanahan will have a hard time removing him from the lineup for the start of the regular season.
