Murray-Hopkins Connection Will Need Time

While this duo will click at some point, don’t expect to see the big plays early on. Although DeAndre Hopkins is an elite receiver, it takes time to build a rapport with the QB. Typically those issues get ironed out over training camp and the preseason.

However, without a preseason there may still be some miscommunication early on. Honestly, there are two scenarios that appear realistic in this matchup. Either Kyler Murray force-feeds Hopkins early, or the offense flows naturally and Hopkins and Murray eventually get on track.

Theres no doubt Hopkins will have success with this offense. The Cardinals are a very pass friendly team. Murray likes to take his shots downfield when they’re available. While Murray may not be at Deshaun Watson’s level yet, he has the potential to be.

Murray is without a doubt the second-best quarterback Hopkins has ever played with. However, even with subpar QB play, Hopkins has had a stellar career. Take a look at this tweet by Pro Football Focus listing off the QBs Hopkins had to play with during his career until Watson was named the full-time starter.

While Hopkins will more than likely have another Pro Bowl season, he may not have a huge game this week. The 49ers’ defense is stellar and Hopkins will be going up against Richard Sherman, who will have a lot of motivation coming into this game.

Murray and Hopkins may not be on the same page right away. There’s a lot of variables going into this week. That’s not to say benching Hopkins on fantasy is the right move or anything like that, though. However, don’t expect the monster game that you are accustomed to seeing from Hopkins.
