5 bold predictions for the Rams vs. 49ers matchup in Week 6

Cam Akers, Rams

Cam Akers Will Score His First Touchdown

When the LA Rams drafted Akers, they had high hopes for him as did many fantasy owners who drafted him. With no Gurley, the Rams planned on turning to a split backfield with Darrell Henderson, Malcolm Brown, and Cam Akers. Many around the league believed Akers would eventually win out the job.

But, after suffering a rib injury earlier in the year, his production hasn’t been what most expected. Akers only has one catch out of the backfield. Many were hoping he would be the primary back in passing situations. While the Niners defense is stout, I expect Akers to be heavily involved in the passing game.

Similarly to the Rams, the Niners front 4 is able to create pressure. When a QB feels pressure, their first instinct is to dump it off to the half back if they cannot escape with their feet. The Niners have one of the better rushing defenses as they only allow just over 100 yards per game.

Expect Henderson to be the featured back, getting the most carries out of the backfield. But, also expect Akers to be used as a pass catcher and record his first NFL touchdown on Sunday Night Football.
