4. Mike Gesicki
As mentioned earlier, the Jaguars have had a very tough time against the play-action. A big reason could be because they were so bad against the run last season. Whatever the case, opposing tight ends have been feasting against this defense.
Last week, Jonnu Smith had himself a career game. Gesicki also had an outstanding game against Buffalo. However, he could be in for an even better outing this week.
The Dolphins’ offense is full of playmakers, and often tight ends get lost in that conversation. Gesicki is a tough matchup, he is physically imposing but still very athletic. Watch for Miami to hit Gesicki on some deep crossing routes on play action. This is a similar concept that worked for the Titans once last week for a big game. The Colts also hit their tight end on a big 3rd downplay on a play-action pass the week before.
For some reason, it always takes tight ends a few seasons to get their footing. So far, it seems like the young Dolphins tight ends have found his footing, notching eight catches, 130 yards, and a touchdown last week. The Bills have an excellent defense. The Jaguars have an average defense at best and Gesicki could be in for another big week this week.
