Damien Williams, Kansas City Chiefs
One of the more surprising breakouts of the 2019 postseason, Damien Williams was arguably the Super Bowl MVP over Patrick Mahomes. In that game he scored two touchdowns in the fourth quarter (one rushing and one receiving), amassed 133 total yards, and averaged more than 6.1 yards per carry. However, during the regular season, Williams played in a very crowded backfield along with Darrel Williams, LeSean McCoy, and Darwin Thompson.
He has definitely earned a larger role within their otherworldly offense and has room to grow, but Andy Reid and GM Brett Veach had other plans in mind.
With the 32nd overall pick in the draft, the Chiefs added even more firepower to their offense with the selection of LSU running back Clyde Edwards-Helaire. In a record setting and championship winning season, Helaire established himself as a complete player who can catch passes out of the backfield or hammer the ball repeatedly when called upon. Unfortunately, this will mean significantly less touches for Damien Williams, who only totaled 111 carries and 30 receptions last year.
The Pat Mahomes-led squad will certainly be one of the top performing offenses in the NFL yet again, but Williams may gradually be phased out or lose quite a bit of playing time to the first-round running back.
