An Ideal Learning Opportunity

Perhaps the greatest value Jameis Winston will get out of his time with the New Orleans Saints is being able to learn from Drew Brees in 2020. Winston has been able to observe Brees’ excellence from afar playing twice every year against him in the NFC South, but now it will be up close.

The production Brees has been able to experience in the NFL has been a blend of high-volume with strong efficiency. He has led the league in pass attempts (6x), passing yards (7x), and passing touchdowns (4x) along with completion percentage (6x).

Not only will Winston be able to observe Brees’ daily process, he will be able to learn from Saints head coach Sean Payton. His coaching presence with quarterbacks has been genuinely impressive throughout his time in the NFL and Winston will benefit from that.

Gaining exposure and reps in a new offensive system that does call for the quarterback to chuck the ball down deep so much will be a nice change of pace for Winston, too. Like Matthew Stafford with the Detroit Lions, Winston was asked to do simply too much in Tampa Bay.
