Winston Is Now Away From The Bucs
While many like to make fun of the fact that Jameis Winston threw 30 interceptions with seven being pick-sixes, it’s important to dig beyond the surface a bit. There is a proven track record of Arians being more of a detriment to quarterback reputations more than being a ‘QB whisperer.’
Essentially all quarterbacks that play under Bruce Arians are heavily turnover prone, especially in their first year in his system. For reference, like Winston, Carson Palmer and Andrew Luck had 40 turnover worthy plays in their first year under Arians.
It simply doesn’t seem fair to cast so much blame on Winston when it has been proven that Arians’ coaching style results in a concerning number of potential turnovers. His quarterbacks chuck the ball deep over and over while taking a beating in the pocket for holding the ball too long.
Playing in a much more principled offensive system with the Saints could do wonders for Winston. He clearly has a big-play ability that any team would appreciate but will be able to benefit from not being asked to use it constantly. This should raise his completion rate and cut down on how often he’s sacked, throws picks, and fumbles.
