Could Be The Saints’ Long-Term Answer
A lot has been made about Taysom Hill taking over the starting quarterback role for the Saints after Drew Brees decides to retire. That may very well be the intended plan at this current moment. However, he still remains a largely unproven player at that particular position.
So far in Hill’s career, he has totaled 15 pass attempts when factoring in both the regular season and playoffs. He completed seven of those throws resulting in 105 yards, one interception, seven first downs, and no touchdowns. That’s far from a solidified quarterback option.
There is a real possibility Hill wouldn’t succeed as a full-time quarterback and could even lose out in a quarterback competition before it comes time to start the 2021 season. A player of Jameis Winston’s caliber should theoretically have a prime opportunity to win out in this situation.
If it ends up being a situation where Winston was able to learn the system for a full year behind Brees and take over the reigns, it would be a major win for the Saints. The Saints would be able to pick up right where they left off and complete the process they began with Teddy Bridgewater.
