Myles Garrett’s DPOY Campaign
The world hasn’t seen Myles Garrett play a live snap of football since… well.
But hopefully, you haven’t forgotten just how good of a football player Garrett is, and just how much of an impact he can have on the Browns defense at large. Because not only was Garrett the best defensive player on the Browns, not only was he one of the best defensive players in the league, but the day before he was suspended for the remainder of the year, Garrett was well in the mix to be crowned as the best defender in the NFL.
And in 2020, Garrett might be able to finish the job he started in 2019 and get that Defensive Player of The Year crown. Looking at Garrett’s progression as a pro player through three seasons in the league, it’s clear to see that Year Four might be the best yet.
A solid rookie season in 2017 of seven sacks and nine tackles for loss was followed up in 2018 by nearly doubling that sack total, reaching 13.5 and adding to it 12 TFL’s and a Pro Bowl invite. And while we’ll never know for sure what 2019 would hold– the numbers were looking to be better than ever before, with 10 sacks in as many games.
Fueled by the fire of his suspension and aided by that continued development, the already transcendently talented Garrett could take another step forward in 2020– going from great to a player that can single-handily wreck an offense.
