Carolina Panthers: 3 Reasons Cam Newton Will Bounce Back in 2018

Jeremy Brevard-USA TODAY Sports

He Has a New Offensive Coordinator

Accuracy has always been an issue for Newton, who is more known for his rushing ability than his arm. However, new Panthers offensive coordinator Norv Turner could be the answer to his problems.

Turner has long been lauded for his extensive work with quarterbacks. He has played a role in the development of such players as Troy Aikman, Drew Brees and Philip Rivers, who all threw less interceptions under Turner than they did prior to his arrival.

The hope is that he will do the same for Newton, who is already one of the league’s most feared quarterbacks even without a consistent passing game. Turner is one of the best offensive minds in NFL history, and he came to Carolina because he wanted to work with Newton.

Newton may not return to his MVP form right away, but don’t be surprised if he has a strong season playing for a quarterback guru. The arrival of Turner is likely to lead to a higher completion percentage, more TDs and less interceptions.
