Things have certainly not gone according to plan for star wide receiver Davante Adams since he joined the Las Vegas Raiders. Arguably the most appealing thing about going to play for the franchise was reuniting with his college quarterback Derek Carr.
After one season in Sin City, that appeal no longer exists. Carr was released earlier this offseason and signed with the New Orleans Saints. Jimmy Garoppolo, who has ties to general manager Dave Ziegler and head coach Josh McDaniels from their New England Patriots days, is now the starting quarterback in Las Vegas.
Going from Aaron Rodgers to Derek Carr to Jimmy Garoppolo in a three-season span certainly isn’t what Davante Adams expected when he left the Green Bay Packers in 2022. As the old saying goes, the grass isn’t always green on the other side and the All-Pro wide receiver is finding that out.
But, is there a chance that Davante Adams and Rodgers can reunite? Per Craig Carton and shared by JPAFootball on Twitter, there is a chance that the former Packers dynamic duo will join forces once again, this time on the New York Jets.
Rodgers took an unprecedented pay cut earlier this week to help the Jets open up a significant amount of cap space. He willingly gave back $35 million, which has to leave the Packers and their fans steaming after he took every penny he could from Green Bay.
New York is already using that cap space to make a splash acquisition as they are closing in on a deal with star running back Dalvin Cook. Could Devante Adams be the next player that they go after?
Davante Adams and Rodgers were one of the most productive duos that the NFL has ever seen. Reuniting on the Jets would give them quite literally an impossible offense to stop. Adding Davante Adams to a group of Garrett Wilson, Allen Lazard, Mecole Hardman, Randall Cobb and Corey Davis would provide Rodgers with an embarrassment of weapons no other quarterback in the league would have the luxury of working with.
Acquiring the star wide receiver certainly wouldn’t be cheap, but Jets ownership has made their goal clear. They want to contend for Super Bowls and as long as Rodgers is in the fold, making moves to get them closer to that goal is the No. 1 priority. Landing Davante Adams would certainly improve their chances of competing.
