The Detroit Lions are going to their first NFC Championship Game in over three decades, and quarterback Jared Goff is thrilled for the fans.

Following the Lions’ win over the Tampa Bay Buccaneers in the Divisional Round of the playoffs this past weekend, Goff waxed about Detroit’s fan base.

“They’re the best. Look around right now. They’re not going to leave here for quite some time,” Goff said, via Larry Lage of The Associated Press. “And this is our last one in front of them and they were special tonight as they were last week. But they deserve it. They deserve this. They deserve to enjoy this and hope to give them a lot more moving forward.”

Goff went 30-for-43 with 287 yards and a couple of touchdowns in the Lions’ 31-23 victory.

It has been a banner year for a Detroit franchise that has been mired in misery for the last 30-plus years. Not only did the Lions win the NFC North, marking their first division title since 1993, but they also won their first playoff game since January 1992 when they defeated the Los Angeles Rams in the Wild Card Round. Now, they are just one win away from the Super Bowl, a place Detroit has never been.

On the season overall, Goff threw for 4,575 yards, 30 touchdowns and 12 interceptions while completing 67.3 percent of his passes and posting a passer rating of 97.9. He then proceeded to go 22-for-27 with 277 yards and a touchdown in the win over his former Rams club.

The 29-year-old is in his third season with the Lions after being acquired in a trade with the Rams back in March 2021.

Jared Goff, who played his collegiate football at the University of California, was originally selected by Los Angeles with the No. 1 overall pick of the 2016 NFL Draft.

The Novato, Ca. native is a three-time Pro Bowler.

Detroit will take on the San Francisco 49ers in the NFC Championship Game next Sunday.
