Wide receiver Chase Claypool has seemingly been on the trade block for months. Now, he is officially on the move as the Chicago Bears are trading him to the Miami Dolphins, ending what has been a disastrous tenure in the Windy City.

The Bears are sending Chase Claypool and a 2025 seventh-round pick to the Dolphins in exchange for a 2025 sixth-round pick. Ian Rapoport of NFL Network, along with Tom Pelissero, released the details.

This is a deal that has been a long time coming as the Bears have not been happy with the wide receiver. Dating back to the offseason there were rumors that Chicago could cut him as he wasn’t showing the team what they wanted to see.

That lack of production carried over into the regular season. In Week 1, clips of Chase Claypool’s effort, or lack thereof, went viral on social media as he was whiffing on blocks and not producing as a pass catcher. He was given two more weeks to figure things out, but nothing came to fruition.

Following the game in Week 4 against the Denver Broncos, there were miscommunications about why Chase Claypool wasn’t on the field. Head coach Matt Eberflus said that Chase Claypool chose to sit out, but a Bears’ spokesperson said that the team told him to stay home.

It was a messy situation that has now finally been resolved. Without Chase Claypool in the lineup, the Bears’ offense has taken off. Justin Fields looks like a totally new player, locking in on No. 1 wider receiver D.J. Moore in the passing game.

The Bears are likely happy that they got anything out of this deal, moving up a round in the 2025 NFL Draft. Their acquisition of Chase Claypool from the Pittsburgh Steelers ahead of the 2022 trade deadline will go down as one of the worst trades in NFL history.

Chicago ended up trading what turned into the No. 32 pick in the 2023 NFL Draft. All they got in return was 18 receptions for 193 yards and one touchdown in 10 games, as he will now fight for the No. 3 job on the Dolphins behind Tyreek Hill and Jaylen Waddle.
