3. Sidney Jones
The secondary in Philadelphia has been shaky over recent years. Whether it was injuries or just poor play, the second level was never at the level that they were expected. This was addressed with the addition of Darius Slay and that means a cornerback could be on the move.
The Eagles figured to get a steal in the draft when they landed Sidney Jones in the second round of the 2017 NFL Draft. This is not what they received, mainly because of injuries. He has played just 22 games in three years thanks to some significant injuries including a ruptured Achilles’ tendon.
Jones is in the final year of his deal with the Eagles and there is no way they can trust him. This is problematic for Jones because he needs to prove his worth to other teams.
A win-win for each side would just be to cut ties and give Jones a fresh start somewhere else. There are plenty of teams looking for depth at the cornerback position. If Jones is healthy, he is viewed as a first round talent. Or was viewed as that. Three years later, we are not sure what Jones could be but there is no need for the Eagles to find out. It would be beneficial to cut ties and receive some compensation.
