3. Cam Akers
Spoiler alert: Cam Akers is the only rookie to make this list, and that comes down to the fact that he isn’t a surefire starter. Even a player like Jonathan Taylor, who will enter a crowded Indianapolis Colts backfield, will be drafted as an RB3 or a high-quality reserve in fantasy football leagues. The hype surrounding Akers simply isn’t as high as some of the other running backs in the 2020 class, but we’re here to squash that narrative.
Following the release of Todd Gurley this offseason, the second-round pick will battle it out with Darrell Henderson and Malcolm Brown — neither of whom impressed in 2019 — for No. 1 duties on the Los Angeles Rams. In his final season at Florida State, he rushed 231 times for 1,144 yards and 14 touchdowns, adding 30 receptions for 225 years and four scores in the passing game.
The delayed start to training camp means that Akers might not win the starting job out of the gate, but expect his role to grow exponentially early on in the campaign.
If the Rams’ offensive line struggles to protect quarterback Jared Goff as much as they did in 2019, the former Seminole could be in for a sizable magnitude of dump off receptions, and his fantasy owners will reap the benefits.
