2020 Predictions
It has not been made official that Cam Newton will even beat out Stidham in training camp, but it is extremely likely. He was sidelined with a foot injury in 2019 which makes his running ability questionable. That is basically what his fantasy status is dependent on.
In 2018, Newton finished top five among quarterbacks in carries, rushing yards, and rushing touchdowns. This was the eighth consecutive time he accomplished that feat. It is still likely that Newton carries the ball 75-80 times this season.
If he does this, Newton could potentially reach 400 yards and 4-6 touchdowns. His rushing ability will take him to the next step as a fantasy quarterback, but he will still have to be a consistent passer.
Newton will have to mesh into the Patriots’ system, which is very complicated. Do not expect him to go crazy with his arm. Newton should be around 3,000 yards and 20 touchdowns this season.
If he cuts down on the turnovers, ideally keeping his total around 10 interceptions, then he is worthy of a draft pick. The days have come and gone where Newton is a QB1 that will put up big numbers each week.
