Fantasy Football: Position-by-Position Start ‘Em Sit ‘Em Picks for Week 1

WRs to Start in Week 1

Bills’ Stefon Diggs (vs. Jets): As previously mentioned, the Bills were able to acquire Diggs in a massive trade this offseason. The big-play wideout will go from having Kirk Cousins as his quarterback to Josh Allen this season.

Even though there is reason for concern due to Allen’s inaccuracies on deep passes, Diggs should be able to have certain weeks where he’s a star in fantasy football. Without a doubt, Week 1 against the New York Jets should be one of those weeks.

The Bills will likely want to make a concerted effort to get Diggs and Allen going in the offense. At the same time, the Jets have a cornerback trio of Blessuan Austin, Pierre Desir, and Brian Poole. Plus, no Jamal Adams for New York is a major boost for everyone in Buffalo’s offense.

Patriots’ Julian Edelman (vs. Dolphins): When playing fantasy football, sometimes it is best to stack a quarterback and wide receiver together. Since we believe Newton is going to perform well in Week 1, it’d be only right if we believe his No. 1 wideout has a nice performance too.

Even without his best friend in Brady throwing him the ball, Julian Edelman should compete for the most targets in New England’s offense for another season in 2020. Also, with him operating out of the slot on most of his snaps, Edelman should see less of Jones and Xavien Howard in Week 1.

Not to mention, Miami’s defense allowed the third-most yards per reception (7.7) and the most passing touchdowns (39) last season.

Steelers’ Diontae Johnson (vs. Giants): Just like our logic with Newton and Edelman, it makes sense to have one of Roethlisberger’s pass-catching options too. Heading into the 2020 season, JuJu Smith-Schuster should slot in as the go-to guy for Roethlisberger.

But along with Smith-Schuster, Diontae Johnson showed last year that he could emerge as a formidable complementary piece in Pittsburgh’s aerial attack. In his rookie season, despite having less-than-ideal quarterback play, Johnson finished with 59 receptions for 680 yards and five touchdowns.

With Roethlisberger targeting him against a Giants defense that allowed the sixth-most fantasy points to WRs in 2019, Johnson could get off to a fast start in Week 1.

Other WRs to consider in Week 1: Lions’ Marvin Jones (vs. Bears), Bears’ Anthony Miller (vs. Lions), Texans’ Brandin Cooks (vs. Chiefs), Eagles’ DeSean Jackson (vs. Washington), Chiefs’ Mecole Hardman (vs. Texans)
