TEs to start in Week 10
Giants’ Evan Engram (vs. Eagles): It is hard to trust any of the pass-catchers for the New York Giants this season. With Daniel Jones struggling under center, none of New York’s skill-position players are weekly starters — maybe besides Evan Engram. Considering the TE position is tough to gauge in fantasy football, sometimes you have to start guys who have consistent usage. In light of that, Engram has seen at least nine targets in four of his past six games. On top of that, he gets a chance to play a Philadelphia Eagles defense that has allowed 16.46 fantasy points (third-most in the NFL) and six touchdowns (tied for third-most in the league) to TEs.
Steelers’ Eric Ebron (vs. Bengals): One team that happens to be worse than the Eagles against TEs is the Bengals. Up to this point, Cincinnati’s defense has given up the second-most fantasy points (17.58) to TEs and have also allowed six touchdowns to the position. With that in mind, Eric Ebron could be a viable start option in Week 10. Ebron has notched 11+ fantasy points in three consecutive weeks for the Steelers.
Other TEs to consider in Week 10: Packers’ Robert Tonyan (vs. Jaguars), Dolphins’ Mike Gesicki (vs. Chargers), Lions’ T.J. Hockenson (vs. Washington)
TEs to sit in Week 10
Saints’ Jared Cook (vs. 49ers): The 49ers are basically fielding an entire roster on injured reserve this season. The number of injuries on San Francisco’s roster has caused them to be less lethal on offense and defense. Still, they’ve performed well at slowing down opposing TEs this season. Currently, the 49ers are limiting TEs to only 8.99 fantasy points per week (fifth-fewest in the NFL). As a result, Jared Cook is probably worth sitting unless you’re shorthanded at the position. Cook had success at certain points this season, but the return of Michael Thomas decreases his value going forward.
Titans’ Jonnu Smith (vs. Colts): Early in the season, it seemed as if Jonnu Smith was going to elevate himself as one of the premier TEs in the league. Even though I’m still a big fan of Smith’s, it’s obvious he isn’t being utilized the same since his ankle injury. Smith has seen a total of 10 targets in the past four games. The receiving TE isn’t a must-start option until further notice, especially against the Indianapolis Colts. The Colts have limited TEs to 7.63 fantasy points per game (second-fewest in the NFL) and are the only team in the league that has yet to allow a touchdown to a TE in 2020.
