The Indianapolis Colts have agreed to sign quarterback Joe Flacco, according to Adam Schefter of ESPN.

It’s a one-year deal worth up to $8.7 million. It features $4.5 million in guaranteed money.

The move comes after the Colts lost Gardner Minshew to the Las Vegas Raiders.

Flacco will serve as the backup to Anthony Richardson, who played in just four games during his rookie campaign in 2023 before going down with a shoulder injury.

The 39-year-old won the Comeback Player of the Year award this past season with the Cleveland Browns. He joined the Browns’ practice squad in late November and was elevated to the roster in December due to injuries and poor quarterback play overall.

Flacco surprised everyone, throwing for 1,616 yards, 13 touchdowns and eight interceptions while completing 60.3 percent of his passes and posting a passer rating of 90.2. Most importantly, Flacco went 4-1 in his five regular-season starts and led Cleveland to the playoffs.

It should be noted that Flacco ultimately showed his warts during the postseason, throwing a couple of pick-sixes in what ended up being a blowout loss to the Houston Texans in the Wild Card Round.

However, the University of Delaware product demonstrated that he is still more than capable of being a legitimate backup quarterback in the NFL, and that is exactly what he will be doing in Indianapolis.

Flacco is of course most known for his 11-year stretch with the Baltimore Ravens between 2008 and 2018. During the 2012-13 campaign, he led the Ravens to a Super Bowl championship.

The Voorhees, N.J. native eventually lost his starting job to Lamar Jackson midway through 2018. He then spent time with the Denver Broncos and New York Jets before landing in Cleveland.

Now, Joe Flacco will be taking his talents to Indy.
