The Detroit Lions are not used to being a good football team, but Jared Goff has helped change the culture surrounding the franchise this season.

For the first time in over 30 years, the Lions will be playing in the NFC Championship Game this weekend, as they will battle the San Francisco 49ers for a spot in the Super Bowl, a place Detroit has never been.

As a result of the Lions’ newfound success, there has been an influx of national attention around the team, something that the organization is not accustomed to.

After all, up until this year, Detroit had not captured a division title since 1993, and it had not won a playoff game since January 1992.

Well, that has all changed under Goff’s direction, and he spoke about it this week.

“I think we have a ton of great players who maybe haven’t had the national stage up to this point that a lot of the other guys have,” Goff said, via the Lions’ official YouTube account. “Obviously, they (the 49ers) have a ton of good players as well and a ton of Pro Bowls and All-Pro players over there. But we feel like we’ve got a lot of good players too. Excited to play on another national stage and be able to showcase that.”

Goff threw for 4,575 yards, 30 touchdowns and 12 interceptions while completing 67.3 percent of his passes and posting a passer rating of 97.9 this season. He has also been brilliant in the playoffs, most recently going 30-for-43 with 287 yards and a couple of touchdowns in the Lions’ Divisional Round win over the Tampa Bay Buccaneers last Sunday.

The 29-year-old spent the first five years of his career with the Los Angeles Rams before being traded to Detroit for Matthew Stafford in March 2021.

Goff has been solid in each of his three seasons in the Motor City, but there is no question that the 2023-24 campaign has been his tour de force thus far.

Now, Jared Goff and the Lions will face their toughest task yet when they head into San Francisco to clash with the Niners on Sunday.
