The biggest reason that people are optimistic about the outlook of the New York Jets in 2023 is the upgrade they made at quarterback. The team acquired Aaron Rodgers from the Green Bay Packers earlier this offseason with the hope that he will help take the offense to another level.
That certainly won’t be too tall of a task for Rodgers, who presents a huge upgrade over what the Jets had at quarterback last season. No. 2 pick in the 2021 NFL Draft Zach Wilson, Mike White and Joe Flacco struggled mightily as the starters in 2022.
How bad were things for the Jets? They didn’t score a touchdown in the final three games of the season, ruining what was a very strong 6-3 start to the season. New York lost seven out of their last eight games to miss the postseason.
In 2023, the postseason is the minimum goal that the Jets have. Some people believe that they are dark horse Super Bowl contenders, but they will need Rodgers under center to live up to that hype. Without him, they are back at the same stage as last season.
That is why the entire organization and fan base held their breath when Rodgers was seen limping around on Tuesday at practice. After throwing a pass in practice, which was intercepted, the veteran grabbed his left calf.
Per Rich Cimini of ESPN, Rodgers was able to stay on the field for the next play, but it is something that the Jets will certainly monitor. The left calf was his good calf, as the right was injured during OTA’s in the spring.
Hopefully, the injury is nothing serious and Rodgers can stay on the field. With so many new faces on offense, these practice reps are extremely important. If he were forced to miss time, it would put the Jets behind the eight ball heading into the regular season.
