The Detroit Lions wallowed in mediocrity last season, going 3-12-1. Only Cincinnati and Washington finished with worse records. As Head Coach Matt Patricia enters his third season at the helm, expectations are low, but Detroit could surprise the NFL by winning eight or nine games, especially if Matthew Stafford stays healthy.
The Lions haven’t won a playoff game since the 1991 season. Two years later, 1993, was the final season where Detroit finished first in its division.
It’s become one of the NFL’s laughable franchises that continuously fall short of expectations or fail hilariously.
Despite Detroit’s many shortcomings, the team is moving in the right direction. However, time is ticking on Patricia’s tenure with the Lions. If his team doesn’t show immediate improvement in 2020, the former defensive coordinator could need a new job.
Luckily for the Lions, the NFC North isn’t as strong as in previous years. Even the division’s top teams seem within reach.
