Miami Dolphins wide receiver Tyreek Hill injured his ankle during his team’s Week 14 loss to the Tennessee Titans and did not play in the second half.

Hill’s status for the Dolphins’ Sunday’s matchup with the New York Jets is up in the air, and head coach Mike McDaniel does not seem too optimistic that he will be playing.

“He’s such an important part of our team that we’re going to make sure that when he’s on the field, he’s not at risk of further injury to himself,” McDaniel said, via Daniel Oyefusi of The Miami Herald.

That sounds like Miami will be extra cautious with Hill, which is entirely understandable. The Dolphins did not practice on Wednesday, but it was estimated that Hill would not have participated if they held one of their normal sessions.

Hill currently leads the NFL in both receiving yards (1,542) and receiving touchdowns (12) to go along with 97 receptions.

The 29-year-old had been on pace to shatter Calvin Johnson’s single-season record for receiving yards (1,964), but his balky ankle has obviously thrown a wrench into things.

Miami is certainly going to prioritize Hill’s long-term health over his statistics, so that record may end up escaping Hill this season.

The Dolphins initially acquired the superstar wide out in a trade with the Kansas City Chiefs back in March 2022. He had a fantastic debut campaign in South Beach, hauling in 119 receptions for 1,710 yards and seven scores.

Hill, who played his collegiate football at West Alabama, was originally selected by the Chiefs in the fifth round of the 2016 NFL Draft.

He spent the first six years of his career in Kansas City, helping lead the team to a Super Bowl title during the 2019-29 campaign.

The Douglas, Ga. native has made the Pro Bowl in each of his first seven seasons. He has also earned four First-Team All-Pro selections.

Miami is 9-4 and has a two-game lead over the Buffalo Bills for first place in the AFC East.
