1. Derek Stingley, LSU
Derek Stingley is showing why LSU is known as DBU. He was the top cornerback coming out of high school and the No. 18 player overall in ESPN’s Top 300. He burst onto the scene as a true freshman and showed us why.
Stingley racked up 38 tackles, 15 pass deflections, and six interceptions as a freshman. There are not many times when a true freshman can come in and be the leader of the defense but that is what Stingley was for LSU in 2019. He was the backbone of the defense for the 15-0 National Champions.
Surtain is the top draft prospect at corner but that is because Stingley is not eligible to enter. Entering his sophomore year, he is the top name on the list of corners to watch in the SEC. He has a chance to be one of the best defensive players to come through LSU. When it is his time to enter the draft, it would not be surprising to see Stingley in the top three, or even higher.
