New England Patriots quarterback Mac Jones has come under fire over the last couple of weeks, with some wondering if the Patriots could end up moving on from him. Jones was benched during New England’s embarrassing Week 4 loss to the Dallas Cowboys, but Pats running back Ezekiel Elliott is confident that his signal-caller will be just fine.

“I have no worries about Mac,” Elliott told reporters on Wednesday, according to Mike Reiss of ESPN.com. “I know he’ll get it together. He’s very assertive, he’s been good this week.”

Jones went 12-for-21 with 151 yards, a pair of interceptions and a lost fumble in what ended up being a 38-3 defeat last Sunday, the franchise’s worst loss in the Bill Belichick era.

It was just the latest dreadful effort for Jones who has totaled 898 yards, five touchdowns and four picks while completing 63.7 percent of his throws and posting a passer rating of 80.8 this season.

Not only that, but Jones has also been mired in some controversy.

During the Patriots’ Week 3 win over the New York Jets, cameras appeared to catch Jones hitting Jets cornerback Sauce Gardner in the private area during a scrum between the two teams.

Jones avoided discipline for his actions, but it was just the latest incident in what has been a career full of questionable on-field behavior since he entered the league a couple of years ago.

The 25-year-old, who played his collegiate football at the University of Alabama, was selected by New England with the 15th overall pick of the 2021 NFL Draft.

A legitimate argument can be made that Mac Jones has gradually regressed since his rookie campaign.

The Pats are just 1-3 on the season and will attempt to get on track when they take on the Kansas City Chiefs this weekend. Jones will need his teammates to believe in him like Ezekiel Elliott does, as things aren’t going any easier this week.
