New York Giants: 3 Keys to Victory in Week 8 vs. Redskins

USA TODAY Sports

Keep Utilizing Saquon Barkley

The one consistent area for the Giants, has been the impressive contribution from Saquon Barkley. With the second overall pick of this year’s draft, this is exactly how the Giants envisioned him playing.

With the struggles the offensive line has had, one way to hinder an opponents pass rush is to keep throwing short passes to Barkley.

It keeps a defense honest, while also allowing Barkley to try to create huge plays like he has all season.

So far this year, Barkley has caught 49 of his 61 targets in the passing game. That’s an impressive 80% catch rate. That ranks him as the second best RB in catch rate (minimum 45 targets), only behind Christian McCaffrey.

The Giants have yet to give him 20 carries in a game though. Although, you can credit that to the fact that the Giants are constantly playing from behind.

Hopefully the Giants can stay close in this game, as Barkley has a 4.9 yards per carry average. That ranks as the sixth best (minimum 65 carries) in the NFL.

Barkley has been nothing short of phenomenal in his rookie season, even with a below average offensive line.

With everyone setting their eyes on the Odell BeckhamJosh Norman match up, the Giants will need to continue having Barkley as the focal point of their offense.

The Giants should continue to run their whole offense through Barkley, thus giving them a better chance to win in Week 8.
