New York Giants: 3 Players to Watch in Preseason Week 3 vs. Jets

Last week, the New York Giants downed the Detroit Lions in their Week 2 preseason bout 30-17. Davis Webb, who was one of the guys I said to watch in my article last week, played a good game leading the Giants to victory. Webb started the game under center, throwing for 140 yards and a touchdown. The Giants’ backup QB did enough to show why he should remain the number two guy behind Eli Manning.

This week the Giants face the New York Jets in the third week of the preseason. The third week of preseason is usually considered the “rehearsal” week for NFL teams. That means we will see more big name players getting reps for the first time this preseason. Each team is different how they handle their star players so don’t expect all of the big time players to be suited up. It’s uncertain what Giants starters will officially suit up.

It’s a risk to start your key contributors in an exhibition game that means nothing, but you also want guys to get reps to be ready for the regular season. Some teams need their starters to play more than others. Whether it be because of a new system, a rookie, or a new QB/WR duo, some guys need every play they can get.

You also can’t forget about the guys who are fighting for a roster spot still. Every team has guys that still need to prove themselves worthy of making it past the final roster cut. This could be a life-changing decision for a lot of guys, as they could be facing their last shot at making the NFL this preseason. It’s harsh, but it’s the reality of the NFL. It’s not easy to be an NFL player.

This a very important week for many teams, as they are getting ready for the regular season to begin. Here are three players you’ll want to watch closely this week for the New York Giants.
