Carson Wentz, Philadelphia Eagles
Bold Prediction 1: Carson Wentz throws three touchdowns in the first half
The Eagles’ offense is built to spread the ball around the field. They don’t really have any prime top tier wide receiver that strikes fear into the defenses in the NFC East. However, Carson Wentz is able to get the ball into the end-zone despite that fact.
The Washington Football Team’s linebackers aren’t very good in coverage. That means Zach Ertz and Dallas Goedert will feast against their defense. Look for rookie Jalen Reagor to emerge as a big play splash receiver as well. Wentz is going to get off to a hot start which should translate to a victory.
Bold Prediction 2: Jalen Hurts gets some playing time, even if the game is close
The Eagles have to have some kind of plan for Jalen Hurts. He is a third-round selection despite Carson Wentz being the clear starter. While this isn’t a QB competition, don’t be surprised if Hurts has his own package offense. This could be something similar to the option offense the Ravens ran at times last year.
Final Word: When he is healthy, Carson Wentz is an MVP caliber quarterback. Last year, without any receiver getting over 500 yards, Carson Wentz threw over 4,000 passing yards. No quarterback has done that in NFL history.
The issue for Wentz has been an inability to stay healthy. If he can play a full regular season and post-season, we can start the conversation regarding if he is elite. Until then, the Eagles quarterback will always be haunted by doubters.
