Dante Pettis
After showing flashes of potential in his rookie season in 2018, it appeared that Dante Pettis was on track to be a top target for the 49ers. Pettis would haul in 27 receptions for 467 yards and five touchdowns in 2018, showing off his ability to stretch the field. However, Pettis would find himself inside Kyle Shanahan’s doghouse early in the 2019 campaign.
The former second-round pick went from starting in the first few games to being a healthy scratch in San Francisco’s Super Bowl appearance. While some would say it’s too early to give up on Pettis, it’s hard to envision him having much of a role in the upcoming season. With Deebo Samuel cementing his status as the team’s No. 1 wideout and the presences of Kendrick Bourne, Jalen Hurd, Richie James, and Trent Taylor, Pettis may have a tough time finding the field in 2020.
Also, the 49ers added Brandon Aiyuk in the 2020 NFL Draft, sending Pettis even further down the depth chart. Even though he’s failed to live up to expectations thus far in his career, maybe a change of scenery is what Pettis needs to reach his potential.
