Ryan Fitzpatrick, Miami Dolphins
The Miami Dolphins used the No. 5 pick in the 2020 NFL draft to take former Alabama standout Tua Tagovailoa. There are a variety of different layers to discuss when it comes to his pathway to taking over the starting job, but that outcome is expected at some point.
For now, Ryan Fitzpatrick is expected to begin the upcoming season as the Dolphins’ starting quarterback. He’s become accustomed to competing for temporary stretches in this role and the 2020 season should be no different as long as Tagovailoa is ready to go health-wise.
Not having an offseason program will make things more complicated when it comes to getting Tagovailoa on the field. He’s coming off a hip surgery and with such a hefty investment in him, it’s difficult to risk trotting him out under those circumstances during a rebuild.
The strange circumstances of the offseason will almost surely delay the Dolphins’ eventual plans with the quarterback position. Regardless, it seems inevitable that Fitzpatrick will lose this role, whether it’s mid-season or simply after the end of the 2020 season.
