Tyrod Taylor, Los Angeles Chargers
The Los Angeles Chargers were another team that took a quarterback early in the 2020 NFL Draft and will likely use a veteran as their starter to at least begin the upcoming season. With Justin Herbert developing on the bench, Tyrod Taylor will be the beneficiary.
It takes some serious results for a player in this type of situation to be able to keep the starting job. Their days are a starter are simply numbered, whether they buy themselves enough time to finish a full-season, or get pulled a few weeks in, the change is almost inevitable.
One of the main drawbacks to having Taylor play a key role in an offense is his inability to consistently produce big results as a thrower. He’s crafty with his ability to use his legs and rarely throws picks, but averaged just 201.3 passing yards and 1.6 touchdown throws as a starter from 2015-17.
Unless Taylor, 30, manages to produce results he simply has failed to do during his numerous seasons as a starter in the NFL, Herbert will take over as the Chargers’ starting quarterback at some point. It’s a matter of when and not if.
