Derek Carr, Las Vegas Raiders
From an execution standpoint, Derek Carr is coming off a very efficient 2019 campaign. It’s crucial he displays more of a capability to take shots downfield and experience success, especially when factoring in the addition of Henry Ruggs III.
Last season, Carr completed 70.4 percent of his 513 pass attempts for 4,054 passing yards, 21 touchdowns throws, and eight interceptions. The problem is that he’s efficient when he tries to throw it downfield but he just rarely tries to do it.
Between a solid offensive line along with Josh Jacobs in the backfield and Darren Waller at tight end, there’s enough for Carr to work with. Then factoring in Ruggs being added into the wide receiver depth chart, there’s simply no excuse for the quarterback to not succeed in 2020.
Failing to show more explosive potential on throws could result in the Raiders giving Marcus Mariota a look in their offense. The former No. 2 overall pick is no stranger to quarterback competition and will look to be on the right side of the position battle this time.
