J.K. Dobbins to Have ‘Significant Role’
The prolific rushing attack of the Baltimore Ravens got even stronger in the offseason with the team’s decision to draft J.K. Dobbins with the No. 55 pick in the 2020 NFL Draft. It sounds like his impact will be felt right away even as a rookie.
Managing to earn a real role in the Ravens’ offense would be no easy feat for a rookie. The backfield in Baltimore starts with Mark Ingram and has Gus Edwards and Justice Hill all vying for snaps. Despite the competition, Dobbins has stood out and made a major impression on the coaching staff.
Despite having plenty of more experienced backfield options, Ravens head coach John Harbaugh made it clear that Dobbins will have ‘probably a significant role’ in the team’s offense in 2020.
“He’s definitely going to have probably a significant role,” Harbaugh said, via the team’s official website. “But again, it comes down to how it goes.
“He’s looked really good in practice. He works really hard. He’s just the most coachable guy. He has a lot of talent, and he’s very coachable. So, he wants to be good, he wants to play. He’s confident. Confidence plus coachability plus talent; it’s a pretty good combination.”
Ingram is entering the final year of his current contract. It will be interesting to see if Dobbins can manage to solidify himself as the Ravens’ No. 1 back for 2021, or if he even manages to take on that role mid-season during his rookie campaign.
With Ingram set to turn 31-years-old in late-December, perhaps he returns to Baltimore in a lesser role to extend his career? The duo he could form with Dobbins on one of the NFL’s best teams has to be considered an attractive option.
