T.Y. Hilton is Ready to Bounce-Back
It was a down year for the Indianapolis Colts following the decision from Andrew Luck to retire from the NFL. It’s clear that Jacoby Brissett lacks a dynamic enough element to be a bonafide starter in the NFL and that certainly hurt the production of T.Y. Hilton in addition to injuries.
The previous results Hilton has achieved in his career put him among the NFL’s best receivers. His peak correlated with Luck being at the top of his game, as one might expect. That’s why Philip Rivers coming to Indianapolis makes it intriguing to think about what Hilton may achieve in 2020.
The early results Rivers has seen from Hilton in training camp have been encouraging, to say the least. In fact, Rivers already feels as though he has already connected on some throws that featured unspoken communication despite being new teammates.
“The best receivers I have been around, they have a great feel for the game, and T.Y. has that, whether it be throttling on a route or being ready for a back-shoulder or a little bit of that unspoken communication that you have that we can kind of get on the same page,” Rivers said, via Phillip B. Wilson of Sports Illustrated. “We’ve been able to have some of those type moments throughout training camp. That will only continue to grow.”
The connection Rivers and Hilton form together will surely continue to build throughout the 2020 season. The fact that both sides are already seeing such results in training camp makes the prospect of a bounce-back campaign from Hilton quite encouraging.
If the Colts do manage to contend this season, as they intend to do, the Rivers-to-Hilton combination will need to set the tone. It already appears to be the case that Indianapolis will receive that kind of impact when the team takes the field in Week 1.
