3. Los Angeles Chargers
Notable members of the secondary: Casey Hayward, Chris Harris Jr., Desmond King, Derwin James, Rayshawn Jenkins, Nasir Adderley
While some teams had an active offseason in 2020, the Los Angeles Chargers quietly built one of the best pass-defending units in the NFL. With Casey Hayward, Derwin James, and Desmond King already on the roster, the Chargers were able to ink a deal with Pro Bowler Chris Harris Jr. in free agency.
Yes, both Harris and King are at their best when they are able to play out of the slot. However, Harris is capable of moving outside, allowing Los Angeles to have three top-notch cornerbacks on the field at all times. It also doesn’t hurt when you have arguably the best safety in the NFL in James — giving them a Swiss-Army knife that can change the landscape of a game.
Also, it’s worth mentioning that either Rayshawn Jenkins or Nasir Adderley is slated to join James on the backend of the defense. Regardless of who wins the starting job, the Chargers easily have assembled one of the best secondary groups in the NFL.
